In today’s reading, Joshua dies at the age of 110 and is buried in the Promised Land, upon the portion he was given. But before he died, he reminded Israel of their covenant with God.
Two different passages stuck out to me today. First is Joshua 24:13-14, which says, “13 I gave you land you had not worked on, and I gave you towns you did not build—the towns where you are now living. I gave you vineyards and olive groves for food, though you did not plant them. 14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.”
This is a good reminder to us that God loved us first, and it is because of this we should love God in return. It is what God has done for us, and as a result, how we should respond to God. It’s not what we can do for God. Without him, we are nothing!
The other verse that stood out is a well known and often quoted part verse 15: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” May I also live up to this declaration!
